Modern irrigation controllers can detect a shorted solenoid and bypass the affected zone. Since the Irrigander irrigation expander drives the controlled solenoids directly there is never an issue with an Irrigander expander activating the controller's over current circuit. However the Weathermatic Smartline® controller also detects an open solenoid circuit. Since the Irrigander irrigation expanders only sense the voltage on the irrigation controller outputs and the Irrigander Encoder does not present the same load as a solenoid, the Weathermatic Smartline controller interprets the Irrigander irrigation expander connection as an open circuit and skips the irrigation expander controlled zones. The Irrigander Controller Adapter corrects this issue. The Irrigander Controller Adapter presents enough of a load to the Weathermatic Smartline controller to allow the zones controlled by the Irrigander irrigation expander to operate correctly without affecting normal controller operation.
